Rise of The Demon General-Chapter 318. Facing Spirit Stage Opponent
Chapter 318: Chapter 318. Facing Spirit Stage Opponent
Xin Wuming was hiding inside the Wei Clan Estate, near the building Amon said to house the jails. Nine others were hiding in different spots around the building, waiting for the signal.
They infiltrated this estate early in the morning before the sun rose. It was the same with the main force led by Amon. Wei Clan had a hectic day yesterday. They hosted a grand feast. Everyone cleaned up right after the feast. Everyone was tired, so very few members were patrolling the estate.
After waking up, Wei Clan members immediately busied themselves to prepare for the second-round celebratory party exclusively for Wei Clan members. Everyone was too occupied to notice intruders hiding inside their estate. Thankfully, Wei Clan didn’t have many Martial Realm members who could sense other cultivators’ presence. As long as the intruders stayed away from where these Martial Realm members were suspected to be, they wouldn’t be discovered.
After waiting for some time, Xin Wuming finally saw the signal. It was an exploding talisman thrown into the sky.
The ten in hiding around the building acted then. They shot out of their hiding places and ran toward the building from multiple directions.
The sentries who guarded the building were unaware at first. Half of them were looking at the sky at the explosion that had just happened, while the other half had their eyes fixed on the building. Their task was, after all, to watch out for any prisoner who tried to escape.
When they finally registered Xin Wuming’s team, it was too late.
The sentries numbered six. All of them had the cultivation of the Beginning Transformation Stage. As for Xin Wuming’s team, three had the Intermediate Transformation Stage, while the rest had the Beginning Transformation Stage. The three were Xin Wuming, Tuang Yin, and Wu Di. They had just broken through into this stage recently. Yang Li, who was with Amon, was the same.
The sentries were powerless. They had fewer numbers, their overall cultivation levels were weaker than the intruders, and the enemies had the element of surprise. They were quickly routed.
After Xin Wuming’s team took out the sentries, eight entered the building, while two stayed outside. The two hid the sentries’ bodies and proceeded to hide themselves. Their task was to watch over the building and ambush any enemy reinforcements that came.
Entering the building, the eight immediately saw that Amon was right. On the floor was a large opening with stairs going down. They saw words of power around the opening on the floor. A barrier was covering the opening.
They could break the barrier by force, but there was a possibility the words of power contained a built-in alarm that could alert the people in the basement. Amon was prepared for such a scenario. Two out of the eight came forward and studied the words of power around the opening. One of them was Diao Xin, a Vicious member skilled in engraving. The other was a Vicious member who showed promising talent as a Formation Sage. This member’s name was Bian Cheng.
The barrier that protected the opening was not formed of formation, but a formation sage began their study by identifying and breaking formation. The process of breaking included deactivating working words of power.
After a quick observation, he identified the weak points within the engraving. He told Diao Xin which words of power should be depowered first. Diao Xin followed his instructions and used his engraving expertise to deactivate the words of power.
The barrier soon dispersed. There was no seemingly alarming sign, so anyone in the basement should be oblivious about what was happening up here.
The eight descended the stairs and arrived in a room with four doors. They carefully opened those doors and peeked. No one was behind those doors, only hallways that split into two directions not far ahead. Amon was right. This basement was filled with mazes.
The eight looked at one another. They had discussed this scenario. Xin Wuming used hand signals and split them into four smaller teams of two. Each team then entered different doors.
---------------
Back at the main hall, the party filled with joy and excitement had turned into a hell filled with agony and death. Many Wei Clan members were lying dead on the floor, either from Amon’s poison or from the blades of Demon Gang members.
Some Wei Clan members with high cultivation tried to fight back. But with the poison ravaging their bodies, it was only a matter of time before they joined their unfortunate comrades.
The fiercest battle was at two locations. Both were against Wei Clan’s Martial Realm cultivators. Yang Li fought one aided by Demon Gang members. The other one was the battle between Amon and Wei Suangsou.
Amon knew it was folly to fight Wei Suangsou directly. The gap between their cultivation was too far apart. The strongest cultivator Amon had slain was Yan Fan, who had the cultivation of Peak Mystic Stage. Wei Suangsou had the cultivation level of almost one entire stage above Yan Fan.
Even though Wei Suangsou was poisoned far worse than Yan Fan because he ingested the poison, his situation was still better due to his high cultivation. He could easily kill Amon.
Amon knew that. He used evasive maneuvers. He moved away once he threw his knives and needles. He had no intention of clashing with Wei Suangsou. His plan was to disturb Wei Suangsou enough to let the poison go further into the clan master’s system.
Of course, if Wei Suangsou chose to flee, Amon would be in trouble. With Wei Suangsou’s power, the Demon Gang couldn’t stop him. However, Amon didn’t believe the clan master would do that. The clan master had, and still was, witnessing the deaths of his countless clan members. Anyone in that situation wouldn’t be able to think straight. Right now, Wei Suangsou’s mind was filled with unbridled hatred and anger at Amon.
This emotion was stronger because he knew Amon’s identity. It wouldn’t be as intense if Amon was a faceless intruder like the others. Amon gambled by exposing and making himself a target. His gamble paid off. The rage kept Wei Suangsou’s mind from thinking about fleeing.
"Pay me back my clansmen’s lives!!!" Wei Suangsou roared as he thrust his arm. A gigantic saber emerged from his hand. This saber sliced forward at high speed, cutting everything it passed through.
Amon managed to dodge instant death by the saber thanks to his acute instinct and his Lingering Shade Stride.
The giant metal saber went on after passing Amon. It cut through the dead bodies of Wei Clan members on the floor. It even cut through a few Demon Gang members who were unfortunate enough to be in its path. It then crashed into the wall, creating a large hole in that wall.
"You will not escape me...!!" Wei Suangsou yelled. He was already almost upon Amon. The speed bestowed by his Spirit Stage cultivation was inhuman.
However, before he caught Amon, a flash of light and a torrent of water came in his path. The translucent metallic shell reappeared around his body. This light and water crashed into the shell. To his surprise, the power that crashed into him was enough to cause him to stop.
He stopped, but the light and water rebounded from the impact. This light and water revealed themselves to be two people covered with black cloth.
"Good job," Amon said. The two who saved him were Qiang Dan and Lu Fei, his Mystic Stage helpers.
Wei Suangsou sensed the two’s cultivation. They were not his opponents. But still, he was burdened by the poison in his body. He couldn’t utilize his full strength.
There was another reason why he couldn’t utilize his full strength. It was because of Amon’s Fragile Bone Muscle Poison. As a maid, Amon went back and forth around the place. He sprinkled the air-borne version of the poison near Wei Suangsou.
Wei Suangsou didn’t realize it because too many people were in the main hall. The number of people with the cultivation of the Intermediate Transformation Stage, like Amon, was too numerous. If he homed in his sense on Amon, he might notice something wrong since it would be strange for a maid to have such a high cultivation, but he didn’t.
Amon made sure to always stay close to one of the Wei Clan members. If he stood alone in the open, it would be easy for Wei Suangsou to notice him due to his cultivation.
He also took care to move outside of Wei Suangsou’s sight. He always moved behind Wei Suangsou when he sprinkled the poison. To Wei Suangsou, he probably considered one of his clansmen with the Intermediate Transformation Stage walked by behind him.
"Face him, but prioritize defense. Time is on our side," Amon told Qiang Dan and Lu Fei.
Qiang Dan nodded. A water globe materialized on the tip of his glaive. The water globe discharged water as it moved. It interacted with the water from Qiang Dan’s original art, River Path. The water that followed his glaive grew into a much larger torrent of water.
