Chapter 355: All That Mattered

Nikolai blankly stared at his officials inside the throne hall. While he was having his usual daily routine of meeting with them his mind still constantly wandered toward his missing memories. And even still, despite those missing memories, he remained fascinated with how comfortable he was around his wife. There were some awkward moments with her since he couldn’t remember a thing, but one thing was for sure: he liked her so much that he simply couldn’t deny the strong connection he felt between them.

While he had seen some of her memories with him and he liked every bit of them, he still wanted to see more of them. It also didn’t help that he didn’t want to drink more of her blood despite how addicting and heavenly it was to do so. He had to control himself for fear of losing her. So he had no doubts that his Queen was someone who he could truly treasure and love.

It was with these thoughts that Nikolai’s face blushed brightly while a beautiful smile adorned his lips. Their passionate night together was something else. Who would’ve thought that he would be able to move on from his trauma with Dahlia? Thankfully, the latter was still alive, and he didn’t have to worry about her happiness and safety anymore.

Again, up until now, he still couldn’t believe that even Zoran was back with them and had become Dahlia’s husband. He was missing a lot of his memories, and yet he didn’t feel lost despite it.

[Focus, Lai. Stop daydreaming,] Mineah scolded him through the bond as he turned to face her. [You, ’ve been smiling to yourself for some time now.]

[It’s boring...] he nonchalantly replied just as quickly as he returned to his normal expressionless self. [Daydreaming is far better than listening to this.]

"Your Majesty, we would like to know the result of your visit to Ebodia and your talk with their new King." Ahmed casually asked.

Nikolai raised an eyebrow at the man in question. From what he recalled, he saw this man in his wife’s memories, and he didn’t like how he looked at Mineah at all.

[Lai, tell them the details we talked about...] Mineah reminded.

He frowned even as he mentally nodded at her words. He saw what he was supposed to say in her memories, so he was well aware of the details in question. They had both decided to tell the officials about their supposed confidential mission while still withholding a few details.

"You’re all aware that I have been gone for days. I was indeed with the King of Ebodia, King Ezekiel," Nikolai began. "He and I, together with Zoran, infiltrated the Castle of Helion to end Devon and Vulcan..."

Murmurs filled the throne hall at his declaration, and Nikolai raised his hand to quiet them all. From there, he began his calculated narration.

"Vulcan found a suitable host in the body of King Ezekiel who harbored the divine blood within him. However, King Ezekiel was able to control Vulcan, which was why we hadn’t seen a report on the golden dragon hurting civilians and innocent people during Ebodia’s battle with Helion," Nikolai informed as if he were talking to a bunch of toddlers.

"We got a piece of information that Devon had all manners of magical books that told of how to extract Vulcan’s power. Along with the information spoken by Ebodia’s Seer, King Ezekiel found out how Devon was planning to capture him and extract Vulcan from his body to have the dragon’s power for himself."

He took in another breath as he continued, "Then, after finding out about these details from my wife, I decided to involve myself to bring justice to our kind for we lost because of Vulcan’s soul. In addition, I didn’t want to let Devon use the dragon’s power to wreak havoc on all the kingdoms. And I’m sure you all know that we’re no exemption from his havoc."

"But Your Majesty, how can you keep this important information from us!" Sage whined.

Nikolai raised a brow and directly stated, "Why shouldn’t I when we were still in the process of clearing out those who were colluding with Devon to remove me from this throne? This is a crucial mission. One that no one should’ve known about except for those involved in it." He scoffed as he added, "You all didn’t need to know the exact details of what transpired except for the fact that Vulcan’s soul has already perished for good."

"I beg to disagree, Your Majesty. We clearly need to know what exactly happened for Vulcan to perish for good," Sage demanded. "All of us here lost family and loved ones to that dragon soul, and we at least deserve to know how it died!"

Shaking his head, Nikolai let out a sigh as he said, "Devon managed to extract Vulcan from Ezekiel, and I used that opportunity to have it killed by using the divine dagger."

"What happened to the dragon’s power afterward?" Minister Rory curiously asked.

"The dragon’s power hovered around for some time over King Ezekiel’s body before returning to him," Nikolai truthfully stated. "We believed that it already got used to Ezekiel’s body, so instead of perishing together with Vulcan’s soul, the great power chose to reside within King Ezekiel once more."

A brief pause happened before once again, the throne hall was filled with suspicious murmurs.

"How can we be so sure that King Ezekiel will-"

One of the ministers voiced out his opinion, but he quickly stopped once his gaze went to Mineah.

Likewise, Nikolai turned to his wife who simply gave the Minister a sweet smile as she gracefully replied, "I am your Queen now, and I share the same blood as my brother, King Ezekiel. You should all stop worrying because I’m sure my brother will not use that power to bring terror." She let off another soft smile as she added, "He will rightfully use it to keep the peace between the kingdoms and to give justice to whoever needs it. That, I am sure of..."

"Nothing is certain... Your Majesty," Sage mumbled. "I guess we’ll simply find out if what you say is true soon enough..."

Mineah’s smile didn’t falter as she firmly stated, "Yes, you’ll find out soon that I am right."

Sensing the brewing hostility, Nikolai quickly interrupted the conversation and changed the topic. Despite this, he couldn’t help but feel relieved. Witnessing how Vulcan died through his wife’s memories somehow lifted the burden weighing down on him. She killed Vulcan and gave justice to his kind, especially his father. They didn’t disclose the exact details regarding Mineah’s involvement since he didn’t want the topic of her curse to be exposed even if it was already broken, but the fact remained that the dragon was finally dead.

That was all that mattered in the end.
