Chapter 270: Final Act I: the awakening

Minutes before the opening of the portals...

"Hey." ๐š๐ซ๐šŽ๐—ฒ๐•จ๐ž๐›๐•Ÿ๐š˜๐ฏ๐šŽ๐—น.๐•”๐จ๐—บ

Hugo grabbed Azazelโ€™s long silver hair up in front of him. The part of Azazelโ€™s left eye and the entire left side of his head was still trying to grow once again. It was almost amazing and dreadful at the same time that nothing seemed to really work on Azazel.

No matter how Hugo punched and dismembered him, Azazel would simply grow his limbs back. Although he noticed that it now took time for the child of evil to regenerate now.

"You look exhausted." He pointed out, seeing the healing bruises across the vampireโ€™s face.

"So are you." Azazel spat at his face and sneered, licking his fangs.

Hugo closed his one eye as if Azazelโ€™s spit reached it when it only reached his cheek. "Fucking bastard."

"What? Giving up on..." Azazel suddenly trailed off as his forehead creased. Hugo obviously noticed the slightest change in his expression.

"Did Cedrick die?" Hugo sneered, watching the slightest change in Azazelโ€™s expression. "What? Do you feel sad about it?"

The latterโ€™s expression was rather dull, gazing back at the pair of ridiculing eyes before him. Indeed. He felt Cedrickโ€™s life slip away and the apologetic feeling at his death.

"Are you, perhaps, sad about it? Thatโ€™s ironic, donโ€™t you think?" Hugo continued while his grip around Azazelโ€™s hair tightened.

To his dismay, the side of Azazelโ€™s lips curled up into a sinister smirk ever so slowly. Although the latter didnโ€™t move an inch with his severed arms and legs still recovering, he didnโ€™t show the slightest hint of sadness.

"Why would I feel sad about it when I had known he will eventually meet his end?" came out in a mocking tone. "Were you expecting me to lose my composure, just like how you wolves enter your feral state?"

"Hah... thatโ€™s more like it. Now, thereโ€™s really no reason to pity you."

"Were you pitying me all this time? Ironic with how you severed my limbs and left me with only my torso, Your Grace."

"Apparently, I have a very soft heart and am very compassionate, even to my enemy." The corner of Hugoโ€™s lips curled up, countering his shameless claims blatantly. "But since you act like a motherfucker, I donโ€™t think I will feel the slightest guilt coming back to my wife and son after ravaging your intestines."

BAM!

Holding a chunk of Azazelโ€™s silver hair, Hugo threw him on the ground without letting him go. One time didnโ€™t stop as it was followed by another one, and then many more, as if Hugo was simply splitting a thick tree log with an ax.

"Argh!" Azazelโ€™s tooth flew out of his mangled mouth along with blood oozing out from him.

When Hugo was already gassing out, he finally released his hair. A chunk of hair strands stuck around his hand, while Azazel laid flat on the ground โ€” face first.

"You know what?" Hugo huffed and puffed, planting his hands on his hips. He gazed up, swallowing down a mouthful of saliva while his chest moved in and out heavily.

"This is actually not bad," he remarked, setting his eyes on Azazelโ€™s stained back. "If you canโ€™t die, then you can be a good sandbag for everyone if they plan to blow off some steam."

He rocked his head, running his tongue across his front teeth. No wonder Deimos, the emperor of Ronmin, reached a terrible state.

Azazel was more annoying than an actual mosquito.

Hugo ran his fingers through his dark ash hair, thinking of ways to keep this man. This battle was basically "over," with Azazelโ€™s regeneration reaching an all-time low. So, although Hugo wasnโ€™t lowering his guard too much, he had more time to idle.

โ€™I should credit Father for damaging this guy before I fought him,โ€™ he thought, shooting Azazel a nonchalant look. โ€™Well anyway, I should call for Daniel so we know what to do with an immortal person like him...โ€™

Hugoโ€™s eyes went wide ever so slowly as he held his breath for a moment. His eyes veered towards Azazelโ€™s figure, seeing a dark shroud from a direction surrounding him. He caught the tips of Azazelโ€™s wounds also produce dark mist as if the man himself would disappear.

Out of nowhere, Hugo heard evil laughter from behind him, causing him to look back. There was no one but a faint, dark mist.

His heart raced with dread, something he never felt before. The waves of laughter continued ringing in his ear and then fading, only to be heard in another direction.

"Hey!" He yelled and looked back to where Azazelโ€™s body was. The latter was still there, unmoving, almost like he was dead.

To make sure the child of evil was dead, Hugo crouched down and turned him by the shoulder.

Thud!

What welcomed Hugoโ€™s eyes was a pair of foggy, lifeless eyes. Azazelโ€™s complexion was paler than ever, and his skin slowly withered with moisture. He watched him until the greenish veins in the vampireโ€™s face protruded while his cheek caved in.

Azazel was shrinking, as if his body were trying to catch up to the years he had lived. Hugo stumbled back, shaking eyes at the vampire as it eventually looked like an old man returning to ash.

"What the..." his breath hitched as he froze when a thick shroud of darkness hovered over his back.

"Hello there, dear wolf." A wicked voice tickled Hugoโ€™s ears from behind.

A space split in the dark shroud as it moved like a mouth, and then two slits to complete his โ€™faceโ€™ for his eyes. It was too late for Hugo to react as the dark shroud enveloped his body.

"I knew you will awaken me... somehow." That was the only thing that Hugo heard before darkness covered his vision as the shroud went inside his mouth, nose, the pores of his skin, absorbing it like a sponge.

A loud shout came out of Hugo as his body flinched while the shroud thinned out. When the darkness cleared out and settled in inside him... Hugoโ€™s opened eyes glowed in a bright, crimson red.

Followed by a dreadful howl that split the heaven.
